2009 heralds the fourteenth year of the Jack Barclay Golf Society. In that time we have visited some of the best venues in the South of England and the coming season promises to be no different.

My involvement began but 7 years ago but I am delighted and proud to be once again charged with running the society and I am looking forward immensely to the three events we have lined up for you.

It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the climate in which we find ourselves at the moment. These are difficult times for everyone but I am delighted that Jack Barclay are continuing with the society and hope, despite the ‘credit crunch’, that as many of you come out and support and attend these events as in the past.

The venues we propose to visit this year are some of the society favourites. Beginning in May, our curtain raiser will once again be St George’s Hill where we will continue with the 27 hole format. We move on from there to Stoke Park in June and finish with a return to The Berkshire in July.

St George’s and The Berkshire will be subsidised member and guest days, whilst I am delighted to announce that our visit to Stoke Park will be complimentary to society members, courtesy of Jack Barclay, and act as their qualifying event into the Bentley Golf Classic. Guests as ever will be welcome at a reduced rate.

For all those that attended an event in 2008 will you will no doubt be aware Tom has purchased a super new trophy engraved with every winner (almost!) of every event since the society’s inception. This has pride of place in the showroom at Berkeley Square and has added even more competition and desire to win one of the events!

However, putting the competition and prizes on offer aside, the overwhelming feature of the Society is the friendship formed between our members and guests and I look forward to meeting many old and new friends once again this coming year.

I hope you can join us.

Jack Barclay Golf Society 2009 Jack Barclay Golf Society 2009 2009 Events Booking Form

Jack Barclay Golf Society 2009

As in previous years, we are continuing with the pair's format. Each member will be able, and are encouraged, to bring a guest. We took this decision a number of years ago after canvassing members' opinions and to ensure the golf remained competitive and it has proved extremely successful. The subsidised events represent excellent value for money, making them the ideal opportunity to entertain clients, friends or family and we hope to see as many of you as possible at each event.

We begin our season at St. Georges Hill in May, and take in Stoke Park Club and The Berkshire in the following months. The national tournament, run by Bentley Motors - The Bentley Golf Classic continues to go from strength to strength. In 2009 Jack Barclay will hold their qualifying event at Stoke Park Club where the winning society member will qualify though to the UK Final.

The Bentley Golf Classic qualifying event will be a Jack Barclay funded event and places are limited. Priority will be given to members that attended previous society events throughout the year and only Jack Barclay customers & owners are eligible to qualify to the Final. Guests will be welcome at a charge of £150 and will compete in a separate competition on the day.

For the first time, this year also sees the introduction of a new on-line system of registration for the events. We would encourage members to identify as soon as they can which events they are able/would like to attend and deposits will be required. We need to do this so we can indicate to the golf clubs the expected levels of guests we anticipate to attend and to tailor the bookings accordingly.

Society Rules

We are introducing a new society ruling this year whereby the winner of each event will have his/her handicap cut by 2 for the remainder of the season. Furthermore, for every 2 points scored above 36, achieved by anyone in the field, will also mean his/her handicap being cut a shot. For Example: St. Georges Hill event - The Member/Guest that wins outright will have his/her handicap reduced by 2 shots. If they shoot a score of 40 they will actually be cut 4 shots. Two for winning and a further two for being four shots higher than 36. The Stoke Park Club event is the only exception to this ruling (Bentley Golf Classic qualifier) and members shall play off their official club handicap, though reductions for winning will still apply going into the London Club event.

Membership Criteria

Membership to society has always been by invitation only and is kept exclusively for customers of Jack Barclay. The relatively exclusive band of members is an ideal that we wish to uphold.

For the last two years we have also encouraged members to bring a guest and we will continue with this ethos in 2009. This ensures even numbers, combined with varied and competitive teams. Occasionally some of the events are over subscribed or venues limit our numbers in which case names have to be 'drawn out of a hat'.

There is no membership fee this year.
