Swinley Forest – 18th April
Swinley Forest was our first outing of the year. A terrific golf course in the heart of the Berkshire countryside and a first visit for the society for many a year. The weather was delightful, if a little chilly, and a field of 24 enjoyed the early Spring sunshine on offer. The day was won on countback by Ken Clark with 32 points from Trevor Cock. As is often the case the best score of the day was posted by a guest and in this case Mick Browning had that honour with 35 points.

The Buckinghamshire – 8th July (Bentley Golf Classic Qualifier)
The Buckinghamshire was the venue of the Jack Barclay qualifier of the National Bentley Golf Classic. Now in its third year this tournament goes from strength to strength and the top two members from this event would progress to the UK Final to be held once again at Bovey Castle. 34 players took part in this event and sharp showers were the order of the day but that didn’t stop some very good scores being posted. Neil Carthy with a magnificent 39 points won the day with Andy Smith coming second with 36 points and both would go forward to represent Jack Barclay at the Final. Bob Lane won the best guest prize.

The London Club – 14th October
Our final event of the year took place at the London Golf Club in October. Venue of this years’ European Open, the London Golf Club is quickly getting a reputation as a very good golf course and one to rival any in the country. Ross Fisher won the professional event with -20 but Derek Lodge was our victor with a slightly more modest 31 points! Tony O’Driscoll’s 30 points was good enough to claim second place and keeping it in the family his son Tom was best guest with a score of 35.

Bentley Golf Classic, UK Final – Bovey Castle 26th-27th September
50 finalists from the 22 national Bentley dealer qualifiers won the right to compete in the third Bentley Golf Classic UK Final which once again this year was held at Bovey Castle, Devon. This two day event was really something special and the culmination of the Bentley Golf Programme 2008. Bovey proved to be a fitting destination, a 5* hotel situated within Dartmoor National Park, complemented by a great golf course and with plenty of activities to keep partners happy. Neil Carthy and Andy Smith were excellent ambassadors for the Jack Barclay society but could not replicate their Society form and didn’t quite reach the heights necessary to get into the prizes coming 11th & 33rd respectively. The venue for 2009 is still to be decided but we look forward to competing once again and trying to go one better and bring the trophy back to Berkeley Square.
All in all this season has been one of the best ever. The weather in the main has been really good, each event has been well supported and the golf has been extremely competitive.
As I am sure you are all aware of by now we have a new trophy in existence that has been displayed at every golf day throughout the year and resides in the famous Jack Barclay boardroom in Berkeley Square. This has been engraved with every winner from all the society meetings since 1997 and we are delighted to have four new names to put on the dish this year. So congratulations Ken, Peter, Neil and Derek you have joined the roll of honour!
