St. George's Hill - 2nd May

St George's Hill once again played host to the first event of the season as the twelfth year of the society got underway in the bright sunshine of early May. St George's has become a mainstay in the society's calendar and a favourite of many of our members and the Blue and Red courses were in superb condition as always. The weather and the course set-up was conducive to good scoring and a closely fought competition was won by Rupert Hessian, edging Kenneth Clark into second place with 39 and 38 points respectively. Keeping it in the family, Toby Hessian walked away with the best guest prize with a score of 37 and with a healthy 24 points, John Smith and Alan Kendrick took the afternoon Greensomes Pairs.

Sunningdale

Sunningdale - 7th June

Sunningdale was the venue for the next meeting and again the golfing Gods looked favourably upon us with warm summer sunshine beating down. In fact, (and not wishing to tempt fate) in a year where the summer can only be best described as a wash-out, not a drop of rain fell at any of our three events! For the first time we played 18 holes over the New Course with the afternoon round taking place on the Old which was something all the members seemed to enjoy. Bharat Amin won the day with a tremendous 37 points, four clear of the next best score achieved by Joe Kelly. Steve McQuillan held sway in the guest competition and the Greensomes Pairs competition went to Joe and his partner Tommy Tomkins.

Stoke Park

Stoke Park Club - 5th July

The final event of the year, held at Stoke Park, also doubled as our qualifying round of the Bentley Golf Classic. The two leading Society members would go forward to represent Jack Barclay at the National Final at Bovey Castle in September. We broke from tradition by making this an 18 hole event and our biggest field of the year competed at this lovely Buckinghamshire venue. It was obviously a good year for Rupert, who following on from his win at St George's Hill, was once again victorious with a score of 35 points. Peter Browning secured second place beating Andy Smith on countback to win his place at Bovey. And for the record, Stephen Legg won the guest prize with the best score of the day, 36 points.

Bovey Castle

Bentley Golf Classic, National Final - Bovey Castle 28th & 29th September

60 finalists from around the country, accompanied by their partners won the right to compete in the second Bentley Golf Classic National Final which this year was held at Bovey Castle, Devon. This two day event was really something special and the culmination of the Bentley Golf Programme 2007. Bovey proved to be a fitting destination, a 5* hotel situated within Dartmoor National Park, complemented by a great golf course and with plenty of activities to keep partners happy. Unfortunately, neither Rupert nor Peter could quite reach the heights necessary to get into the prizes but represented Jack Barclay admirably and came 26th & 31st respectively. At the time of writing, the venue for 2008 is still to be decided but we look forward to competing once again and trying to go one better and bring the trophy back to Berkeley Square.
